A group of concerned citizens is trying to preserve the Marfa Lights, a famous and unexplained light phenomenon that occurs ongoing in Marfa, Texas and attracts tourists. The group calls hemselves the "Marfa Mystery Lights Brigade," and they are worried that the new Trans-Pecos Natural Gas Pipeline, currently in planning, will not only steal the limelight from the Marfa Lights, but make them disappear altogether - possibly drowning them out with lights caused by fracking instead.
Many Texas news outlets picked up on the story, but so did "paranormal"-leaning sites like Coast to Coast AM.
Many people, including those who've done studies on the Marfa Lights, say these lights are just created by passing cars. On the MySanAntonio.com story, someone commented: "The lights are no mystery. They need to explain how an underground pipeline could disrupt the headlights from Highway 67." However, these conclusions are heavily disputed by conspiracy theorists who say the studies have been limited, and don't acknowledge the centuries-old lore about the Marfa Lights -this phenomenon became famous before the invention of cars. Do you think this pipeline will make it harder to see and/or appreciate the Marfa Lights? If so, is it worth fighting against? Share your thoughts in the comments or on the Facebook page. Texas UFO Sightings will monitor his story closely.
