A report of a "bright white sphere" growing and shrinking in size and disappearing over Texas has been submitted to NUFORC (case S136074): Bright white sphere high in the morning sky, illuminating light grows in size, then vanishes in an instant.
Considering the recent hurricane activity in the area, could this be a case of "ball lightning?" TexasUFOs also reported on strange lights over Mexico during a recent earthquake, which could represent a similar phenomenon called "earthquake lights."
Many cases of bright spheres of light performing strange moves over witnesses have been reported over the years, and sometimes even seem to be intelligent or at least intelligently controlled, like the Cash-Landrum incident in East Texas during the 80s, or the many accounts of lights going into and out of volcanoes, or even a case from January 2011 in California where an orange ball of light hovered for several minutes:
