A Google Map "Easter egg" just made news headlines. Apparently when searching for Area 51, a now-known secret government base in Nevada associated with UFO conspiracies, and choosing "street view," an icon of a flying saucer - instead of the typical "pegman" - appears.
However, this Easter egg was around as long ago as 2014, and since then, it appears Google Maps has limited search results for Area 51 to only include gift shops and bars and other places named after the facility, not the facility itself (as it did in 2014). Fortunately in 2017, searchers can still find the flying saucer Easter Egg; they simply have to zoom into the location around Area 51 (just north of Las Vegas) or type in 'Groom Lake' (the actual name of the location): 2014: Google lets people search "Area 51"
2017: Google requires zooming into location or searching Groom Lake to find Area 51 (no longer can just type 'Area 51')
Google is known for fun features like these, but it is interesting that since releasing this feature, Google has since limited search results for Area 51.
