7/22 Update: A similar sighting in nearby Conroe occurred a few days later - post to come! 7/29 Update: A similar sighting in Dallas days later also has occurred. Read about it. A Cleveland, TX resident and his grandmother were driving at night when they spotted a weird object in the sky - glowing bright like a star, but moving in a straight path and eventually disappearing over the trees. Could these Texans simply have spotted a plane or helicopter or satellite that simply looked strange from afar? What's interesting is another similar UFO was spotted in a nearby town a few nights later - I'll be posting about that soon! Luckily, the witnesses were able to capture the UFO on camera (see the photo above), and they submitted a detailed report to MUFON: Me and my gramma were driving at night..looked towards sky saw a glowing object hovering over trees. Looked like a star but it then glowed brighter and very very slowing seemed to be moving in a straight path over the trees..could no longer take a picture it was cloudy and very dark then disappeared. I knew it wasnt a star it seemed brighter and bigger. Even my gramma thought it was unusual that it actually moved and disappeared over treetops..

A phenomenal video just surfaced on the web, but not in the most trustworthy spot. A YouTube account known for posting UFO videos somehow got its hands on this one, and provided little context - "2013" and "Midland" is all we know. The video shows a clear triangular craft gliding through the night sky, following alongside the camera man's vehicle. A family - both panicked and excited - can be heard in the background, yelling and essentially freaking out. Tragically however, an extremely annoying music soundtrack is placed over the dialogue. Anyways, here's the video. Are they hiding something with the distracting music? Could this be a hoax? As always, you be the judge, and if you saw this UFO, please let me know.
7/27 UPDATE: Apparently this UFO traveled a little to the northwest, too, as it seems to have been spotted in up in Zephyr, TX, according to a comment on this story by Steve: "About 10:30 at night I saw a really fast moving bright light shoot through the sky towards the northeast. This was in zephyr Texas. It was so fast and then just disappeared it had no tail." Last night, something appears to have been doing some magic tricks in the sky in the Austin/San Marcos area. Close to midnight last night, two people reported - to Twitter and then to this site - seeing a bright disc streak through the sky and then abruptly and silently disappear. Was this a meteor so high up in the sky that people in different parts of the state saw it at the same time (though I don't see any meteor reports from TX for July 19th, and typically shooting stars make sounds when they explode), or was there something far more mysterious going on? Here's the tweet out of Austin: I just saw a crazy bright light by Austin tx. Very fast, thick short streak/thin disc that stopped and disappeared silently And the San Marcos sighting, submitted to Texas UFO Sightings: A large, oblong or thin disc of bright white light (like a banana but not curved) appeared in the sky very quickly before slowing down and disappearing completely, silently, and instantly with no explosion or evident interaction with the atmosphere. In North Texas several days before, another identical sighting with multiple witnesses occurred. If you saw this UFO, please let me know! View Strange Light July 29th in a larger map
7/20 Update: A similar sighting occurred in Central Texas on July 19th A veteran sky gazer, used to spotting planes and satellites and that sort of thing, was surprised to see a bright white light, first traveling slowly through the sky and then seemingly caving in on itself - the light "shrunk down to nothing vs just suddenly disappearing." Read the full MUFON report, which includes a comment from another witness, below, and let me know if you saw this, too. I am a sky watcher all my life (love astronomy) and very scientific minded so I am not easily tricked. Anyways, I was walking my dogs around the block at dusk. I was headed south with the Moon and Venus to my right. Straight ahead (south) i observed a white light slowly moving NW that i figured to be an airplane. As i neared the end of the street (actually just where the street turns a corner) I saw a faint white halo form around the object. After 2-4 seconds with the halo it suddenly brightened up for a second or less and then disappeared into itself. Best way i can describe is like when you turn off an old tv. The light just shrunk down to nothing vs just suddenly disappearing. I continued my walk, a bit nervous, but I kept watching for it to make a return but that was the end of it. And a comment from another Lake Kiowa resident who's seen similar things in the area, which is rural with little no light pollution: There have been many sighting of this same object by others at Lake Kiowa in the past couple weeks. There is no light pollution in the area. The objects can't be confused with other air traffic since it is a rural area little else in the sky.
It seems as though an extra big shooting star made its way over Texas on the night of June 13th, but one witness' note that they're "not sure what it was," naturally, has me wondering. Whatever the case, a fireball sighting was reported by two witnesses to AMSMeteors.org. Here's a quote from one of the reports and a map of the sighting: Amazing fireball. Not sure what it was but it looked beautiful |
