I was in a car sitting shotgun while my father drove. We were headed up to Crockett from Austin to visit the my grandparents. I noticed the object and immediately said 'is that a UFO?!' It was a small metallic sphere. A little larger than a bb from a bb gun. It was silver/grey in color and kind of reflecting the sunlight. It was completely stationary and made no sound. I would guess that it was maybe a mile away, maybe 30 degrees from the horizon in the eastern sky. I observed it for about 30 seconds and then it went from being silver metallic in luster to a dark grey and not reflective at all. As we were driving some trees obscured my view for maybe three or four seconds. After we had passed the trees the object had vanished. I am curious if anyone else noticed this object. I recall that there were power lines between myself and the object. I think we had been driving for an hour or so but I cannot be sure which town we were passing through when I noticed the object.

Wow, what a week. There have been mass UFO sightings in Texas out the wa-zoo, of all sorts. I thought they were worth a post all on their own. Here's a wrap up of the strangeness in the skies of the Lone Star State... basically, everyone's seeing orange. Could a meteor shower be to blame? According to ElPasoAllSky.com, possibly. A fireball explains some, but certainly not all, the sightings. As well, a local San Antonian has admitted to lighting sky lanterns the night of the mass sighting in San Antonio (however it doesn't really explain the exact nature of all the sightings).
In other oddball UFO news...
Here's a photo of the lights seen in League City, apparently identical to other sightings around Texas.
A few tweeps from Georgetown, TX (near Austin) had an online conversation about a sighting from last night, May 22nd. Apparently, there was a bright blue, flashing light with a red tail. I'm trying to get more details. Could this be a meteor? Someone thinks they may have seen one in nearby Austin the same night.
Could a meteor shower be to blame? According to ElPasoAllSky.com, maybe. Someone in Pflugerville, TX tweeted about a May 18th UFO sighting. On the 19th, they tweeted: "we saw a UFO last night" and then followed up with "it was a bright light that was just floating in the sky And just took off." Similar UFO sightings of a star-like object behaving like a speedy craft have happened recently in Austin, Corpus Christi, and Magnolia.
A Pflugerville, TX resident spotted a very odd-looking craft floating over them. They got a great photo of the object - could this be some sort of remote-control toy? The local news shared the testimony: Sunday (05/20/12) night We were sitting in the back yard enjoying the evening...waiting for eclipse when we noticed this object flying/floating/traveling overhead. We cant figure out what this object is. It was about 7:30 pm and object was traveling east to west...Is it a balloon? glider? Did anyone else in NAustin, Pville or Round Rock see this??? Any ideas what it could be?
