Is the White House haunted? According to a former resident, Jenna Bush Hager, it is.
When Jenna and her twin Barbara lived at the presidential estate, they were awoken in the middle of the night by a mysterious phone ring. At that point, they heard 1920s piano music playing... from the fireplace. Another time, they heard opera music. When Jenna discussed the event with a friend and fellow resident, Buddy, who still works at the White House, Buddy wasn't surprised and confirmed that the house was haunted. On the "Today" show, Jenna told her co-host Hoda Kotb: "We talked ourselves out of it... But they came with all good intentions. They were friendly ghosts.”
This is not the first case of a White House haunting. The spirits of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, and Abigail Adams are all reported to roam the grounds. In fact, a photo showing Abraham Lincoln posing with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln... after his death... is still famous, though many believe it just a double exposure. Spirit photographer William H. Mumler was put on trial for hoaxing it, however he ended up being acquitted.
If there's any house worth haunting, the White House would be a great candidate, considering its epic and varied history. What do you think of Jenna Bush Hager's haunted tale? Have you ever been a house or a building you thought was haunted?
