"Several objects observed" over the South Pole - "All film confiscated"

A really interesting written description of UFOs over Antarctica has been submitted to MUFON (case 98635).

Sightings in Antarctica

Back in the mid 90s I was stationed with a naval squadron at mcmurdo station Antarctica . On a routine flight to South Pole station one of the aircrew brought our attention to the port side windows where several objects were observed keeping pace with our LC-130. They seemed to follow our every move for about 5 minutes or so and as quickly as they appeared they were gone.  The photographers mate on the flight managed to snap numerous photos before the disappeared. Upon arrival back to mcmurdo station we were met by two individuals and taken by van to the main building. All film was confiscated and all of us on the flight were told to speak of nothing and that we saw nothing. This is just one of many encounters I experienced while down on the ice.

What makes this case so compelling to me is that it's not the only case to come out of Antarctica from this time frame. Famed UFO researcher Linda Moulton Howe interviewed a naval officer about his sightings of UFOs and a mysterious vast hole in the South Pole when he was stationed between 1983 to 1997:

What's also interesting is in 1996 and 1997, the exact time frame of this sighting, scientific experiments at McMurdo Station, the exact location of this sighting, were conducted. The Amanda (Antarctic Muon and Neutrino Detector Array) Project eventually evolved into the IceCube Project, and its purpose is "to observe high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical point sources." Basically, scientists are trying to view the cosmos through the ice! They were in 1996 and they still are today. The program could be compared to CERN, which has also revealed light neutrinos.
