3/21 Update: a similar Texas UFO sighting occurred in January of this year, see video below!
That's not a plane, a bird, a helicopter, or Super Man. That leaves few possibilities, including a drone - something that apparently was a common sight at SXSW. This video was shot at 3rd and San Jacinto Street during the fest, and in it you can hear reveling spectators jokingly asking the UFO to take them away. The witness - who reported this sighting in an email to me - is very perplexed as to what this would be and would love some input. Although drone is an easy card to play, this is a really great video no matter how you slice it. And of course it makes one wonder... the more amazing a craft is, the more likely we are to debunk it, huh? Check out the video: Here's part of the email I received from the witness: I would really appreciate it if y'all can help me out an tell me what it is...this was during SXSW in Austin,Tx I recorded from 3rd and San Jacinto...thanks for your help, oh and sorry please excuse the language in the video...lol thank you Our friend EastTexasUFOs filled us in on a similar sighting in Cuero (in East Texas) in January. Check it out for comparison:

Read more from the local news report: The citizen reported seeing "red fire balls in the sky" traveling in a south-west direction from the area of Daisetta in East Liberty County. Here's a video of Chinese lanterns to paint a picture of what Texans may have seen that night:
One of our favorite local Texas UFO hunters, who regularly spots amazing things near his home, has posted another great video. This time, though, I think it can be explained away as falling debris or space junk (though there are still some interesting anomalies, as one of the objects appears to move horizontally for a bit), but it's great footage regardless. See for yourself:
A pilot with 45 years of experience spotted an extremely bright, silver light in the sky that suddenly zoomed off out of sight in less than a second. These UFOs are some of the most confusing - what floats in mid air and then zips off faster than any man made air craft? A super drone? Here's the full MUFON report: Left work shortly after 2pm Sunday, 3/24 going home to Granbury,Tx. from Stephenville. I take the back roads instead of Hiway 377, the commonly used route because of heavy traffic on 377, for safety reasons. I was on CR305 close to the Erath/Hood county line. A very rural area and sparsely populated. Almost no traffic. About 1420hrs a very bright silver light to the south caught my eye. It appeared round but was so bright it was hard to tell. I appeared to be about a mile away, at 5000 above ground, stationary. I stopped my car and watched it for about one minute then it shot away almost directly away from me to the south so I lost sight in less than a second. I have been a licensed pilot for 45 years and this was no known aircraft. This was a sunny clear day so the brightmess was really remarkable. I do not believe it was a reflection, again because of the level of brightness so that the light appeared to be eminating fron the object. I was very interested and curious, I was not frightened.
The description and photo of this latest Texas UFO is not all that compelling by itself - a floating orb making slight movements could be a satellite. However, the context of this sighting makes it more intriguing. The witness is an expert star gazer (she even shared a beautiful photo of the moon she took) and is used to seeing planes and planets and whatnot. As well, she's been seeing the same orb or fireball since February. The first time she saw it, she thought it was a meteor. But its returning visits have made her suspicious. While in the past, she's seen it disintegrate, this time around, she was not looking at the sky when it disappeared. (And remember, a star doesn't just disappear.) Here's one of the photos she snapped, and although you can't make out the true shape or color of the UFO, you can Here's the full MUFON report: I started seeing this object in Feb 2013. The first time I saw it I was sitting outside and noticed a fireball NW of Houston, which seemed to disintegrate. I thought it was a star or meteor. Two nights later I saw the same thing. On March 24th I went outside and I noticed the same fireball type of object west. I noticed the object because it was exactly like the fireball I saw disintegrate. I often watch and photograph the night sky, and knew it was not a planet or plane as we live in flight path and the planes are obvious. It seemed to be hovering with some slight movement the the south.I went inside to get my camera and when I came back out it was further NW. I took several pictures with a 250mm lense. Went back into to download the photos. Then went out 10 minutes later and it was completely gone. I was expecting to see this orb as I have been seeing others recently. I am enclosing some photos along with a photo I took of the moon tonight. I'm fairly good at still photography at night..it appears the object was moving. |
