A Texas UFO Sightings reader snapped a photo of a collection of orange lights flying silently and low through the night sky. Could these simply have been Chinese lanterns caught up in the wind? The description and photo don't really resemble your typical set of Chinese lanterns, though this was a Saturday night - when lantern-worthy celebrations tend to happen. Check out the photo and testimony below, which is very similar to a sighting in Fredericksburg from the same night: Trail or orange/amber lights flying south to north in what appeared to be a formation. Too slow for jets, I estimate, more of helicopter speed, but no sound at all. Altitude was significantly lower than passenger aircraft flying overhead at the same time. Estimate of 2000-5000 feet (maybe). There were approximately 50 individual lights, possibly more. We observed them continually for 15-20 minutes around 8:45-9:00pm this evening. Any ideas? Have you seen any strange lights like this recently in Texas? Make a report!
Photo from the American Meteor Society
Many witnesses saw a fireball shoot through the Texas sky yesterday evening, and they reported their sightings to the American Meteor Society. The common theme was a flash of red, blue, and/or white light with a tail that seemed to trickle off into the night sky (there may have been debris from the event). Is this a sign of more to come this afternoon, when Asteroid 2012 DA14 will swing by the Earth? (Yesterday, a meteor injured hundreds in Russia.) PS, someone also witnessed a more mysterious UFO-like object on the same night in Carrolton, so they may be related! You can read the full testimonies/descriptions on the AMS site, but here are some highlights: looked like a smoke trail then it appeared to get super bright, explode, then disappear quickly - JL from Bryan |
