Did this Texan tweep see a shooting star or something else? Moving faster than an airplane, and sporting a green/blue glow, it sounds like we've got a meteor on our hands. However, the fact that it was "darting through the sky" gives it a more mysterious vibe. If you saw anything strange over the Dallas area on the night of March 7th, let me know! @dorsey11 tweets: Bout 80% sure I just saw a UFO. Wuuuuuuuuut

Over the past few days, we've seen a significant uptick in Texas UFO sightings. They varied from strange orange lights in varying formations to green flashes. Many sightings did have a "meteor" feel to them. Well, it now appears that over the nights of May 22nd and 23rd, according to Elpasoallsky.blogspot.com, there may very well have been a meteor fireball over Central and North Texas. Does this explain some of the recent sightings, or was there something else zooming through our skies that has been mistaken for a meteor? Certainly stationary lights in the air don't fit that bill. A recap: (this one's being chalked up to sky lanterns) Wow, what a week. There have been mass UFO sightings in Texas out the wa-zoo, of all sorts. I thought they were worth a post all on their own. Here's a wrap up of the strangeness in the skies of the Lone Star State... basically, everyone's seeing orange. Could a meteor shower be to blame? According to ElPasoAllSky.com, possibly. A fireball explains some, but certainly not all, the sightings. As well, a local San Antonian has admitted to lighting sky lanterns the night of the mass sighting in San Antonio (however it doesn't really explain the exact nature of all the sightings).
In other oddball UFO news...
Here's a photo of the lights seen in League City, apparently identical to other sightings around Texas.
The Lights in the Texas Sky blog has written up a great post about recent UFO sightings all over Texas - from League City to Katy. Apparently, on May 19th, residents all over the Lone Star State, as well as Missouri and Pennsylvania, saw red/orange lights moving in formations. This sighting is just like the mass sighting that made the news in Texas City (near League City) and is still unexplained! It's also similar to the red/orange lights seen the week of May 14th in various Texas cities, especially San Marcos. Here's a picture of the more recent event, from a Mesquite, TX and League City resident. A few days after this sighting, there was a mass sighting of a fireball-like object over Central and North Texas, according to ElPasoAllSky.com. Here's video of the League City sighting, from May 18th and 19th. And here's video of what appears to be the same UFOs in Mesquite the same night: Here are some testimonies from Lights in the Texas Sky:
Ayyyybcde has posted a YouTube video of some blinking, white orbs hovering and seemingly moving over Mesquite, TX (outside Dallas) on May 19th. The video is very shaky and the nighttime sky is so dark that it's hard to make out the UFOs, but you can spot them if you look hard! The YouTube description: Saw these about 10pm, there was 5 total at one point |
