Texans - (from Austin to Houston to Dallas) looking up at the night sky on the nights of December 28th and 29th were in for quite a treat, as shooting stars were definitely making some grand appearances. As with other recent meteor sightings in Texas and the world, the fireballs were gigantic and close to the ground! 2013 was a record setting year for meteors and so far, it looks like records will continue to get broken in 2014. Folks who spotted the shooting stars flooded AMSMeteors.org and TUS with their reports. Here's the map from the bigger sighting on the 28th (from AMSMeteors.org): As well as a few witness reports from the December 28th sighting: The entire sky lit up green and I saw a large green fireball with a fiery tail shoot across the sky over Oklahoma and then completely disappear a couple seconds later. Never seen one so close before.- Meida L, Oklahoma And some from December 29th: "It was one of the best meteors I have seen to date, and I've been watching at least 3-4 per year for the last 7 years" - Brandon B, Cleburne During the same time range, Texans in Anthony, Redwater, and George West, TX saw UFOs as well, but UFOs that clearly were not meteors... I'll be investigating these sightings and sharing those details shortly - not sure yet if they're related. For all we know, the December 28th and 29th mass meteor sightings were really mass UFO sightings. : ) Please let TUS know if you have anything at all to add to this story - surely these dramatic fireballs were spotted by Texans all over!
Okay, guys, you are going to have to help me confirm or debunk this one. I did not expect to be blogging about the horrific, deadly explosion of a West, Texas fertilizer plant this morning. I'm heartbroken for all those who lost homes and family members and I really don't like turning the story into a UFO story, but there is all kinds of talk on the web about a possible UFO or fireball that hits the building before the explosion. I did not see a UFO/fireball, and I've reluctantly watched the videos of the explosion over and over again. So far, I'm not buying it. Saying that, if there was some sort of missile, meteor or drone at the scene of the crime, that's a huge news story, worthy of a cover up, and I'd like to get these rumors on the public record. Supposedly a gif was posted showing a UFO clearly hit the building, but it's been taken down. Here's the lousy screen shot I took that may or may not show the UFO, you see a big burst of light before the big explosion - I don't think it is: And the reason for all this speculation, some quotes from online forums, specifically GodLikeProductions.com and AboveTopSecret.com: I paused it right when the fireball enters the screen from the left... I can see the movement from left to right and it hits the building then explodes. Maybe someone with better equipment and get a good shot or 2 of it and post. And the video (caution: this is shocking):
You guys remember all those strange sky sounds heard around the world? Well, they may be making a comeback in Texas. Someone heard a pretty terrifying growling, rumbling noise in the sky and shared the experience on the forum AboveTopSecret.com. About the time i mentioned above i went outside to check the mail, the most terrifying sound i ever heard,a cross between a huge growling, roaring noise coming from the killeen area passing over head and removing to the lampasas area,it sounded like it was coming from the sky,i looked up but didn't see any jets ,contrails are anything. The most sicking feeling was in the pit of my stomach because i thought something was going to crash, when i did go back in i was shaking so bad,my daughter also heard this, but she was inside.Did anyone else hear this?It was not a plane are jet from killeen area sounding nothing like them, move my post if not in right area Other Texans chimed in with similar experiences. Just north of you here in Waco last night people heard a rumbling noise and it wasn't SpaceX in McGregor as people who live close to SpaceX posted that they did not hear anything. No one ever figured out where it came from Since Killeen is near the Fort Hood army base, one theory is it's related to military activity, but this eyewitness says he's used to hearing that sort of thing, and this was nothing like it. To refresh your memory, here's one of the countless videos recording the strange sky sound phenomenon that's been happening all over the world during the past few years: |
