Cigar-shaped Object "Floating Above the Gulf" in Galveston

• Where: Galveston
• What: Cigar shaped object hovering and then disappearing after flash of smoke

Texas UFO Sightings reader Gilbert B saw a very odd "long white tube" hovering over the ocean and fortunately submitted a detailed report:

A long white tube. It was floating above the Gulf. It was not moving at all that I could see. Was in the air for about 5 minutes, then a black film or smoke covered it and it was gone. I first thought it was a Blimp but it was to thin to be a Blimp?
I was driving east on the seawall and did not get a photo, I wish I had!
Can anyone explain this sighting?
