"Jellyfish in the sky, attempting to disguise itself as a cloud" - Austin

  • When: April 22nd, 2013
  • Where: Austin (at the corner of Shoal Creek and 39th 1/2 street)
  • What: Very large, cloud-like UFO breaking apart into pieces and reforming into different shapes over and over again

We have an extremely poetic and fascinating UFO report to share. An Austin resident and his friend were watching the clouds float by and wondering about when it was going to rain again when they noticed one of the clouds move away from the rest and at a steady pace. It then kept breaking apart and forming back together, but into different shapes. Almost like a fluent organism or jellyfish! (I'm especially intrigued by UFOs that appear to move like an animal, implying it's THAT high tech or is possibly some kind of undiscovered species.) The witness got the impression this was a big craft disusing itself as a cloud. THIS IS NOT UNUSUAL! Many people have seen such anomalies over the years.

No matter how you slice it, this is a head scratcher. If anyone knows of any strange weather patterns or optical illusions that could have cause something like this to happen, please comment! And if you saw this beautiful UFO yourself, please let me know.

I may have some more details and an illustration to share soon, until then check out the full report, submitted to Texas UFO Sightings:
It had rained a little bit earlier in the day. The sky was dark, but mostly clear at this time, except for some massive grayish-blue clouds lingering overhead. Those clouds were so slow-moving that they seemed almost still. But as slow as they were, they were moving north and were kind of wispy, like they'd been gently painted, blending in with the rest of the sky. We were looking up, talking about how pretty it was and wondering when it would rain again, as forecast.

My cell phone rang at 9:17pm...the exact same moment we noticed a single cloud which was bright white, and stood out from the rest (I confirmed the time from my phone's call log). It was moving at at a steady pace, headed north -- stark contrast from the stillness and color of everything else in the sky. I don't know how fast it was, in reality or how far away it was, but it was closer to us than the planes and helicopters we regularly see from nearby hospitals are, and regarding speed... it visually looked like it was moving at a rate that a sailboat might glide by.

At first glance, it looked like a blob of a cloud, that's starting to fade to the point where you can see sky through it... except the cloud wasn't fading, and the "holes" were expanding and contracting. The entire object kept breaking apart into pieces and morphing back together, forming different shapes. These individual pieces are best described as egg or oval-shaped. The movement was synchronized and fluid, in the way that a jellyfish moves in the ocean; bobbing out and in, up and down. In all, there were about 40-50 of these individual pieces which made up the entire object. As for size, again it's hard to tell from where we were on the ground, but if I had to guess from how close it seemed, I would say the entire "body" was about the length of a station wagon or 1980s-1990s European sedan at its smallest, when contracted, and twice that length when expanded. In general, its height seemed about half of its length, at its most compact.

The spacing between each of the pieces was consistent... if one moved, say, two feet out from the most adjacent pieces next to it, all of them moved two feet out from the pieces adjacent to them as well...These pieces would then come back together, into the same spacing they had before...but the collective "body" was in different shapes each time they came back together - triangular, circular, oval, arrowhead, rectangular, cylindrical. Sometimes, it would go back to the original "blob" shape we saw. The 40-50 pieces would sometimes would be in staggered rows to make these borderline-military formations of shapes -- say, two in row one, five in row two, eight in row three, etc... It never paused or slowed, nor blended with the rest of the cloud. The pieces did not waver the way a balloon would with the wind... they moved into their positions, out or in, and held those positions... moving only in sync with all other pieces.

This continued seamlessly, as the "cloud" floated north (to our left, from where we stood on the ground.) We stood in awe, kind of marveling at it, following it with our eyes, until it went beyond trees that obstructed our view any further.

Pretty sure that anyone else looking at the sky around then, and beyond that point, would have also seen it.
I regret that we were too stunned to think to use the cameras in our phones to film it. I would have liked to, not just for proof of a UFO, but because it really was one of the most beautiful, unique things either of us has ever seen and we would have liked to have shared with someone else. It really was like watching a jellyfish, or a masterfully-choreographed ballet performance. I do know that I'll never forget it. Before writing this, we have sat here for the past three hours, in awe and trying to rule out everything we can think of. There is just no logical explanation for it.

I don't think anyone we know would believe what we described, and we can't find anything else online which looks like or is described as what we saw, but I don't care and will be content to never mention it again, but just remember it. I'm stunned and in awe of what we saw and I feel fortunate to have been able to witness something probably not a whole lot of other people on this earth saw or will ever see. This 'jellyfish' in the sky, seemed to be a UFO attempting to 'disguise' itself as a cloud. That makes little sense among tales from the 'UFO tale canon', but there is also nothing that makes more sense than *that*. However, I wanted to make sure that I documented our story somewhere, so that if someone else saw it and is looking for confirmation of some kind, they won't feel they were hallucinating. We saw it, too.

On August 6, 2014 I was at six flags great adventure with my family. My cousin, father and I went on the Ferris wheel. We were stopped at the top and enjoy the beautiful view. It was a nice summer day with big fluffy clouds. My cousin and I noticed a cloud that was thinner and floating up. Much like a cloud of smoke rising off of something. We noticed that it didn't dissipate as smoke clouds do. Instead it kept moving upwards in a jellyfish like movement, breaking apart and coming back together. Then all of a sudden it disappeared into a cloud. Again, I can't stress enough how, it didn't fade in color at all.
