Mermaids in Texas?

A really difficult to understand, but no less intriguing testimony of a... mermaid... was submitted to MUFON recently. The sighting dates back to 2017 but considering it was of a... MERMAID!... I thought it was worth sharing here. I was actually looking up alien entity encounters when I came upon this, as any "humanoid" sighting is worthy of exploring on this site. Check out the MUFON testimony below, which details a possible encounter with both a living and dead mermaid:

Was about to go to the Pier with my girlfriend... Some lady walked up to us with a big camera; says she lives near by, and walks to the beach - she asked me if I fish a lot, I said "yes ma'am I do." She said "good, can you get this on camera." I said "can I lol" she took can off her neck an then I proceed to look at what I couldn't believe my eyes - shocked scared and I said "babe what is this?" she told the lady "I think it's a mermaid. .... [undecipherable]  ... I put my stuff back in the truck and I walked to what I say an a Dead Mermaid ... I was going to put it in my truck bed but it was too far ... and maggots everywhere, so I just flipped it over to see a human skull an one arm half gone an the other Webb hand fingers with a looks to me like a dolphins [undecipherable] sideways I have pics of it - a lot of pictures till this day just wanted to share what I saw with 3 people the lady I never saw her again I did tell her to call the news, and nothing came up. but the picture is real - me holding it with a stick an video also up close to it ...

Although there is a long history of mermaids, similar to UFOs and aliens and other "paranormal" subjects, there isn't a very long one here in Texas. San Marcos loves to celebrate the mermaid, but historic sightings of the aquatic humanoid are more prevalent elsewhere in the world. Fun fact - Christopher Columbus, who documented a UFO sighting in 1492 (still unexplained), also documented a mermaid sighting!

Skeptics debunk his sighting (and other "mermaid" sightings, for that matter) as simple misidentifications of manatees. I'm not sure I buy that theory, however, as mermaids are known for their beauty and manatees are definitely not:
