"Unusual orange glowing ball hovering over Clear Lake" - League City (Houston area)

2/25/2013

  • When: February 23, 2013
  • Where: League City, TX on Clear Lake (outside Houston)
  • What: Large orange orb, fading in and out

In 2012, the the coastal town of League City saw quite a few UFO sightings, mysteries still unsolved. Well, we've got a new mystery on our hands. Some friends watched an extremely large orange ball of light hover over a lake, silently move around all over the sky, and fading in and out (as these types of orbs tend to do). The witness claims that they're used to seeing unique things in the sky, due to the Coast Guard being so close by, but that this was far stranger. Luckily, they reported the strange sight into MUFON.
Was telling some friends goodbye, after an evening of boating. Noticed an unusual orange glowing ball hovering over Clear Lake. Watched this for about 3 minutes, making move changes, but no noise whatsoever. Approx. range was a mile and one half. After several direction changes it disappeared. About 30 minutes later, the same object appeared in the same area, but a little further East. We observed it for a couple of minutes. Then it disappeared, like before. This was 10 times bigger than any other aviation light, we have seen in the area. We are used to seeing Coast guard helicopter and various other airplanes at the same altitude. This was definitely strange and different.
Houston has been no stranger to UFO sightings over the past few nights. A bunch of strange orbs, of many varieties, have been spotted in the area. Could these encounters be related?? Has there been a lot of meteor activity, any ideas guys?

I go fishing on Clear Lake all the time and have seen many strange things, all probably military, but I have seen orange balls of light as well. I have seen them many, many, times but they are lanterns, like Chinese paper lanterns or something similar. I thought they were strange the first time I saw one flying over Clear Lake near Kemah until someone pointed out what it was. Sometimes they move fast as hell, and then slow down, change direction with the wind etc... and usually there are more than 1 released.
