Several mysterious orange-glowing lights were filmed hovering, descending, and seemingly disappearing and reappearing over an oilfield in Kenedy, Texas, according to Latest-UFO-Sightings.net. The lights were captured on video by oilfield workers, and are contrasted against the black sky pretty clearly. At one point, part of the sky lights up, as if there is an explosion. In the video, you can hear one of the witnesses yell something like "they shot it down!"
Apparently these aren't the only UFOs that have been seen in the area of late. According to the witness, "the workers have been seeing lots of crazy lights."
This is a very clear video, but it may not show aliens... Possible theories include flares, fireworks, and nighttime parachuters. Perhaps there was a military exercise going on at the time?
I'm trying to learn more about this sighting, including the specific date it occurred on, so keep checking back for updates. In the meantime, if you also saw these lights, make a report!
"Black, reflective, larger than several football fields" - Texan Sees UFO, or Soviet Satellite?, in 1986
A sighting of an extremely large, black object slowly moving over Austin has just been reported to MUFON (case 124784). The sighting occurred all the way back in 1986, so apparently the witness was not able to forget about it:
Black, reflective, larger than several football fields....
The witness claims that the Austin Statesman referred to the event as "Russian space debris burning up," which they were suspicious about.
I couldn't find this exact wording in old newspapers, but I did find a series of articles from August 1986, which described a "Soviet satellite," called Cosmos 1767, crashing back to Earth, specifically into the Indian Ocean:
According to reports, the details about this satellite were largely unknown, and so it's unclear what it looked like.
According to NASA, Cosmos 1767 Cosmos "was a Soviet ELINT (Electronic and Signals Intelligence) satellite launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome aboard a Zenit 2 rocket," which was "based on the first generation Tselina ELINT," which you can see pictures of below.
What is odd is there is also an article detailing the satellite crash from February 1986; the problem with that is Cosmos 1767 allegedly didn't launch until July 30th, 1986. So, it seems like there is more to the story...
At the time, the Austin American Statesman reached out to Jim Oberg, a former NASA engineer, and acclaimed space journalist and author, for comment; Oberg said the Cosmos 1767 appeared to be the "fifth in a series of unusual launches."
Just a few years after all of this, in 1988, another Soviet satellite, this time called Cosmos 1900, and this time radioactive, would also be predicted to fall back to the earth, though it's unclear if it ever did.
Is it possible this UFO witness in Texas in the summer of 1986 saw a secretive Soviet satellite? Or was this just a convenient cover story for something far stranger?
Let me know, as always, what you think of this story in the comments.
Did you also live in Austin in the 80s? Did you witness the Cosmos 1767 satellite crash, or something else strange in the sky, during the summer of 1986? Report your sighting, and help us solve this mystery!
8/31/22 Update: Since posting this story, people have shared their theories online. Twitter user Spectre67904513 suggested it could be a plane with a contrail behind it, and although contrails can create some pretty mysterious sights, I don't think that's what the video shows. Twitter user SwinkInc, on the other hand, suggested something more reasonable (in my opinion), a cylindrical-shaped drone, like what the one shown below. What do you think?
What do you think?
A video showing an elongated, glowing object flying through the sky over Weslaco, Texas was uploaded to YouTube. The witness was watching a car show when they noticed something strange in the sky:
"UFO I caught in video while attending a car show.. No sound. It was traveling northwest at a fast speed. All I can see is 6 square shapes forming a rectangle; bright in a gold color."
Now, as a UFO researcher, I do have a pretty lengthy checklist I put UFO photos and videos through. And one possible explanation for what we are seeing here is a... balloon. But there's no way to tell without more witness info, evidence, and review.
So, let me know what you think about this sighting in the comments below, or on Facebook or Twitter. Did you see this UFO as well? Help solve this case by reporting your sighting!
"Preachers say it is from the other world" - 1897 Newspaper Article Documents Strange Air Ship Over Dallas
In the late 1800s, a wave of mysterious air ships were seen flying over the United States, in particular California and Texas.
We know that some of the newspaper stories were hoaxes, but perhaps even more of them were describing man-made craft. However, craft that shouldn't have existed at the time, according to the mainstream history of flight... craft that seemed to fly faster and farther than the dirigibles and airplanes that followed in the 1900s.
Not to mention, some of the sightings included encounters with strange humanoid beings. The most famous of these cases was the April 17th, 1897 Aurora, Texas UFO encounter.
Well, just one night before the legendary Aurora encounter, according to the Brownsville, Texas Herald, an air ship was seen passing over Dallas, and this led to speculation otherworldly visitors:
"It may have been an optical illusion, but Dallas tonight is wavering between science and revelations over the air ship. It passed north of this city tonight at 8 o'clock going from East to West and was witnessed by hundreds, including such men as Judge A.T. Watts, formerly of the High Court and Dr. R. C. Kopesh, who describe it as being only about 200 feet from the ground and in appearance similar to the air ship seen in different parts of the country. Preachers say it is from the other world and is the avant courier of the second coming of Christ. They say that if it was an earthly device it would be seen by day as well as by night."
A myriad of newspaper reporters documented these 1800s air ships:

"The object did not make a sound as it passed over head" - Triangles Over Texas, Yesterday and Today...
I am pouring through a number of reports right now, so stay tuned for much more to come on this website... in the meantime, I thought I would check in briefly with a triangle UFO case from the 70s.
According to the witness, who gave testimony to MUFON (case 124534), a silent triangular-shaped craft was once seen quietly traveling over San Angelo:
The sighting took place around 2 AM CST. Sitting on the porch that clear summer night, I looked up and quickly noticed this triangle shape object with 6 bright lights traveling north. The object did not make a sound as it passed over head. I saw the lights very clearly and the shape had a triangle shape till it disappeared going north.
