Texas Seeing Meteors Ahead of Meteor Shower?

4/27/2016

  • When: April 20th and 21st, 2016
  • Where: San Antonio, Jerrell, Laredo, Woodway, and Dalhart
  • What: Large meteor (likely)

Did Texans glimpse the Lyrid meteor shower this month  - ahead of schedule?
While star gazing calendars didn't expect the Lyrids until the 22nd of April, many locals reported seeing a large, fantastic fireball on the 20th and 21st, days after other meteors were seen in other parts of the world - along with many earthquakes.

Reports were sent to NUFORC and AMSMeteors.org, detailing a large fiery object in the sky, flashes of light, and power outages:

San Antonio  on April 21st (NUFORC):
A Beautiful Rock full of different colors in the sky.

On April 21, around 9:30pm, a flying object Shape like a Rock that has all those beautiful colors when you break it in half. It was northeast of San Antonio. Tx At first I thought the reason it looked like that was because the moon was behind it.

looking northeast . it lasted a while the beautiful colors kept me from being afraid like God showing fiesta colors.

Jerrell  and Laredo on April 20th (NUFORC):
Sky flashed white, then reddish orange glow for 20 seconds.

At exactly 12:55AM, Wednesday, 04/20/16, I was watching TV, curtains closed, lights on, when I saw a bright sky flash that lit the whole interior of the house, red. I thought it was odd. There were thunderstorms, but the nearest activity was 200 miles away. I heard nothing, felt nothing.

This morning I was speaking with a coworker buddy, and it came up. He said he was sitting on his patio at that exact time, just before going to bed, and saw the sky light up bright white. He lives 30 miles from me.
He got up and looked to see that it appeared to come from one direction, all the street lights and cell towers went out, and the sky glowed an odd reddish orange glow for 15-20 seconds, then faded away.

5 minutes later, he had a system failure involving equipment we work on for a living.

I have posted it on Facebook, and got a couple of responses stating that there were power outages, fire dept calls, etc at that same time. No craft was seen. I am simply posting this in hopes others may have seen something.

I live on I-35 in far Northern Williamson County, and my coworker lives in Leander, far Western Williamson County, 30 miles apart. Hope someone else saw this or more. Thanks.

Did you see this fireball as well? Did you get photos or video? Send a report!
