A Russian telescope has picked up on an alien signal being emitted from a sun, which is about 94 light years away from Earth, and the team at SETI (the Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence) is currently investigating it. Astronomers are focusing their attention in on one of the sun's known stars, HD 164595. Scientists and the Internet have all been notably excited about the discovery.
Even rock musician and UFO Disclosure activist Tom Delonge (formerly of Blink 182, and currently of the band Angels and Airwaves), posted an Instagram about the news, mentioning the popular theory that the star may host a "Type 2 Civilization," or an intelligent species that is capable of harnessing the power of the sun for its own uses. Considering that Delonge claims to be in communication with government insiders who have investigated the UFO phenomenon, it's interesting to make note of his participation in this online conversation:
However will this alien signal go the way of the famous mysterious "WOW" signal reported by SETI in 1977? Like in 1977, astronomers are speculating that in reality there is nothing alien at all about the signal the Russian telescope picked up. Until the signal is heard again and can be analyzed further, it doesn't appear there will be any confirmation that advanced extra-terrestrials live nearby anytime soon.
What do you think of this news? Will alien civilizations soon be announced?
