As far as the weather goes, it just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Here are the top five weird weather events from 2016 that this site covered:
5. Jellyfish Lightning in Puerto Rico
When Caribbean resident Frankie Lucena decided to snap photos of an amazing September thunderstorm, he was lucky enough to capture video of what looks like a jellyfish-shaped lightning strike! Turns out Lucena photographed a "sprite," a special kind of electrical discharge that occurs above the clouds.
4. Ship Floats Above the Ocean in Florida
An amazing mirage was recorded on video by a witness in Cocoa Beach, Florida in June. The optical illusion is caused when a real image is perceived to be in a different location than it really is due to the bending of light.
3. Dome-like Cloud Over Wales
A rare "fog dome" appeared in Great Britain in early December. The woman who snapped the photo shown here described the eerie cloud as an "alien pod." The weather event is so rare that you'll be hard-pressed to find another account like this anywhere online.
2. Mushroom Cloud Over Siberia
In August, a bizarre and ominous looking cloud appeared over the Kemerovo region in Siberia. Although it was widely reported as a natural cloud formation, some people believed an explosion had occurred nearby, or that they were witnessing a UFO. And in fact, some people still question the official scientific explanation.
1. Creepy Cloud Looms Over Japan
An extremely large and perfectly round cloud was seen and photographed by many witnesses in Fujisawa, Japan, before it dissippated. This latest weird weather event is the latest in a trend of similarly scary-looking clouds.
