Photos of a yellow sphere-shaped object have been uploaded to MUFON (case 124998) by the witness, who claims it to be a UFO. Now, at first glance, the photos appear to show a lens flare, however upon further examination, I'm not so sure... The photos and testimony remind me of other unexplained sightings in Texas from over the years, and in fact, it all reminds me of the rare, naturally-occurring, but poorly-understand phenomenon called "ball lightning." According to NationalGeographic.com, ball lightning can appear during thunderstorms. So, it's worth noting that this specific UFO was seen as a storm was rolling in:   Zoomed in   Zoomed in   Zoomed in I was on my deck when a storm was rolling in. I have the photos of what it looked like. But could these photos just show lens flares? The witness may have even been viewing the UFO through a camera lens, or a window, and misidentifying the object (rather than being deceptive). I am trying to find out whether or not a thunderstorm ended up rolling in that evening, but I haven't been able to so far. Texas is known for its short thunderstorms, however, and so it's possible I won't be able to find a record of one. In the late 1800s, a wave of mysterious air ships were seen flying over the United States, in particular California and Texas. We know that some of the newspaper stories were hoaxes, but perhaps even more of them were describing man-made craft. However, craft that shouldn't have existed at the time, according to the mainstream history of flight... craft that seemed to fly faster and farther than the dirigibles and airplanes that followed in the 1900s. Not to mention, some of the sightings included encounters with strange humanoid beings. The most famous of these cases was the April 17th, 1897 Aurora, Texas UFO encounter. Well, just one night before the legendary Aurora encounter, according to the Brownsville, Texas Herald, an air ship was seen passing over Dallas, and this led to speculation otherworldly visitors:  "It may have been an optical illusion, but Dallas tonight is wavering between science and revelations over the air ship. It passed north of this city tonight at 8 o'clock going from East to West and was witnessed by hundreds, including such men as Judge A.T. Watts, formerly of the High Court and Dr. R. C. Kopesh, who describe it as being only about 200 feet from the ground and in appearance similar to the air ship seen in different parts of the country. Preachers say it is from the other world and is the avant courier of the second coming of Christ. They say that if it was an earthly device it would be seen by day as well as by night." I've been catching up on UFO reports sent into NUFORC, and here's one I missed - a sighting of strange blue lights sitting stationary in the sky north of Dallas. According to the witness, the lights hovered for hours before mysteriously vanishing. One theory is these lights are from a New Years Eve fireworks show or light show, but the fact that the witness saw this in the very early morning and observed it for so long makes me question that:  out to smoke looked up and 2 dark shapes above clouds with light around them and flickering
